Objectives

In supervised clinical training, you will learn postpartum midwifery care.
The supervised clinical training course provides the skills for implementing comprehensive nursing care for postpartum families.

After completing the course, the student:
• is able to perform postpartum midwifery in a family centered manner
• recognises disorders and complications and knows the care during the postpartum period
• is capable of caring for high-risk mothers during the postpartum period
• is able to observe and care for a healthy newborn in a baby-centered manner
• is able to guide families in infant care and teach parents skills to meet the needs of the infant
• is able to promote breastfeeding
• recognises the health problems of the newborn and is able to care for them in a family supportive manner
• is able to support early interaction
• is able to guide families in promoting sexual and reproductive health
• is able to act in accordance with the ethical principles of nursing and in a sustainable development-promoting manner

Supervised clinical training in a mother-infant unit

Prerequisites

The student has participated in Postpartum Midwifery Care -module.

Assessment criteria, pass/fail

Passed
The student
• is able to carry out postpartum midwifery care safely and resonsibly
• interacts with the woman, family and work team professionally
• guides and supports the woman and her family in a patient centered manner
• follows confidentiality and data protection guidelines
• follows the guidelines of the supervised clinical training
• evaluates own competence realistically and is able to give and receive feedback
• Follows the ethical principles of nursing and operates in a manner that promotes sustainable development

Failed
The student
• is not able to carry out postpartum midwifery care safely and resonsibly
• interacts unprofessionally with the woman, family and work team
• withdraws from patient guidance and is not able to support women and their families
• does not recognize the boundaries of own expertise, is endangering patient safety
• violates confidentiality or data protection guidelines
• fails to follow the guidelines for supervised clinical training
• evaluates own competence unrealistically and is unable to receive feedback
