Objectives

In the supervised practical training course, you will gain the basics to carry out midwifery care of high-risk pregnancy patients comprehensively and evidence-based. You will deepen your theoretical skills in identifying, monitoring and treating different high-risk pregnancies. The course prepares you for counselling, guiding and supporting pregnant families related to high-risk pregnancies. 

After this course, the student
• will master the treatment path of a high-risk pregnancy patient
• will meet a client/patient and their loved ones professionally
• will be able to investigate the condition of pregnant emergency patients under supervision and assess the need for treatment
• will participate in the planning, implementation and evaluation of client-oriented and evidence-based high-risk pregnancy care as a member of a multidisciplinary team
• will comply with the ethical guidelines and principles of midwifery
• will be able to evaluate their own operations realistically and develop their own operations
• will master working life skills

Content

Supervised training package including work at the maternity outpatient clinic, the pregnancy emergency clinic and the high-risk pregnancy ward.

Prerequisites

Participated Midwifery during a high-risk pregnancy -course.

Assessment criteria, pass/fail

Pass: 
Student 
• masters the treatment path of a high-risk pregnancy patient and knows the responsibilities of the various partners in maternity care
• meets a pregnant woman and her close ones and members of the work community professionally
• is able to apply theoretical knowledge and, under supervision, carry out the midwifery work of high-risk pregnancy patients
• is able to monitor the condition of a pregnant woman and a fetus in high-risk pregnancies
• is able to guide and support a pregnant woman and her family in a client-oriented manner
• is able to carry out midwifery work in high-risk pregnancy patients responsibly and safely
• strives to strengthen the evidence-based knowledge base in midwifery
• complies with confidentiality obligations and data protection guidelines
• complies with the guidelines for supervised training agreed in their own activities
• identifies the limits and development goals of their own competence
• evaluates their own actions realistically and is able to both give and receive feedback

Fail:
Student
• does not understand the treatment path of high-risk pregnancy patient and the various partners
• is not able to meet the pregnant person/family and the work community professionally
• has incomplete theoretical knowledge of high-risk pregnancies and cannot apply theoretical knowledge in midwifery of high-risk pregnancy patients
• cannot reliably monitor the condition of a pregnant woman and a fetus in high-risk pregnancies
•  withdraws from guided instructions and does not know how to support the pregnant person/family in high-risk pregnancies
• violates the confidentiality obligation or the privacy of a patient
• fails to follow agreed instructions for supervised training
• does not recognize the limits of their competence, endangers the safety of  a pregnant woman and a fetus through their actions
• assesses his/her own competence unrealistically and is unable to receive (constructive) feedback
