Objectives

In the study module, students will learn to prevent and control infectious diseases, and gain skills to perform nursing tasks related to vaccination.

After completing the course, the student
• Be aware of the obligations set by the Communicable Diseases Act and Regulation in nursing practice.
• Identify key and current national and global infectious diseases and understand how to prevent and manage them at the individual and population levels.
• Be familiar with diseases preventable through vaccination.
• Understand various types of vaccines and key information about vaccine composition.
• Be able to guide clients on vaccination-related matters.
• Be knowledgeable about vaccines included in the national vaccination program.
• Understand the principles of safe vaccination.

• Communicable Diseases Act and Regulation
• Generally hazardous diseases and Monitored communicable diseases
• Prevention and treatment of infectious diseases
• National vaccination program and diseases preventable through vaccination
• Different types of vaccines and vaccine composition
• Guidance related to vaccines
• Safe vaccination
• Traveler's health

Prerequisites

30 ects of first year studies completed, including Pharmacotherapy and Medical Calculations.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The student
• Is familiar with the obligations set by the Communicable Diseases Act and Regulation in nursing practice.
• Can identify some key infectious diseases and knows how to prevent and manage them at the individual and population levels.
• Understands different types of vaccines and their corresponding guidelines.
• Is aware of some vaccines included in the national vaccination program.
• Understands the principles of vaccination.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

The student
• Is knowledgeable about the obligations set by the Communicable Diseases Act and Regulation in nursing practice.
• Can identify key national and global infectious diseases and understands how to prevent and manage them at the individual and population levels.
• Understands different types of vaccines and their corresponding guidelines.
• Can guide clients on vaccination matters.
• Is aware of vaccines included in the national vaccination program.
• Understands the principles of safe vaccination.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student
• Is well-versed in the obligations set by the Communicable Diseases Act and Regulation in nursing practice.
• Can identify key and current national and global infectious diseases, understanding how to prevent and manage them at the individual and population levels.
• Knows different types of vaccines and can apply vaccination expertise in various vaccine contexts.
• Can provide individualized guidance to clients on vaccination matters.
• Is familiar with vaccines included in the national vaccination program. Proficient in the principles of safe vaccination.
