Objectives
The student
- demonstrates under supervision skills to assess the needs of care and plan, implement and evaluate care of women given birth and newborn babies by utilising the evidence-based knowledge
- identifies and describes the basic concepts of postpartum midwifery and the care of newborn baby in the neonatal intensive care unit and recognizes gap of knowledge and seeks actively the knowledge
- experiences in the care path of women given birth, healthy newborn babies, and newborn babies taken care in the neonatal intensive care unit
- knows the infection control principles and adheres the principles of aseptic working in the context of postpartum midwifery and neonatal intensive care
- is able to safely manage the patient's medication and fluid therapy under supervision
- is able to, under supervision, observe the vital function of the newborn babies/ the newborn babies in the intensive care and gets experiences in the decision-making related that
- is able to observe, under supervision, women’s wellbeing and recovery after birth and gets experiences in the decision-making related that
- meets the patients and work group members respectfully
- is able to guide the mothers and their families in the breastfeeding, self-care and the basic care of newborn baby
- aims to promote patients’ wellbeing and is acting safely

- is able to safely manage the patient's medication and fluid therapy under supervision

There are obvious shortcomings in basic knowledge about postnatal midwifery and neonatal intensive care; searching for and utilising knowledge is incomplete, and even after a tutorial discussion there are misunderstandings in the theoretical knowledge.

- do not know the care path of women given birth, healthy newborn babies and newborn babies taken care in the neonatal intensive care unit
- do not know the infection control principles and does not adhere the principles of aseptic working
- makes mistakes in the patient's medicine and fluid therapy despite being supervised; has not completed a medical treatment passport
- is not able to observe the postnatal wellbeing and recovery of the woman despite being supervised
- is not able to observe the vital functions of the newborn baby and newborn babies treated in the neonatal intensive care unit despite being supervised
- does not meet the patients and work group members respectfully and professionally
- is not able to guide the mothers and their families in the breastfeeding, self-care and the basic care of newborn baby
- does not recognize the boundaries of his/her expertise, endangering patient safety
- violates confidentiality or patient privacy
- fails to follow the agreed rules for supervised practice (e.g., takes no responsibility for his/her own learning; the goals are missing; does not follow the working hours, does not report his/ her absences, and/or the total amount of required hours is not fulfilled)
- evaluates her/his own competence unrealistically and is unable to receive feedback
