Objectives

The student
-meets with the patient, significant others and members of the work community in an appropriate and respectful way taking ethical principles and guidelines into consideration
-takes the principles of ergonomics, aseptics and patient- and occupational safety into consideration in all circumstances
-is able to prioritize patients need of care, observe the patient and react to changes when needed
-gains experience in documentation and communication
-is able to evaluate his/her own skills and professional development realistically

Content

Basics of prehospital emergency care

Prerequisites

Participation in courses on Medical and Palliative Nursing, Surgical Nursing and Basic Level Emergency Care.

Assessment criteria, pass/fail

Pass
The student
-knows the essential clinical skills needed in emergency care including documentation
-masters the use and maintenance of transfer and treatment equipment
-is able to observe the basic vital functions of the patient and learns to make the related decisions
-meets with the patient and significant others and members of the work community in an appropriate and respectful way
-is able to work ergonomically, aseptically and in accordance with occupational safety
-adheres to the agreed rules of clinical training
-realistically evaluates his/her own activities, and is able to give and receive feedback

Fail
The student
-does not possess the essential clinical skills needed in emergency care including documentation
-continuously endangers patient- or occupational safety or aseptic working practices-
-does not adhere to the agreed rules of clinical training (for example, does not take responsibility for his/her own learning; learning goals are missing; does not report absences; required hours of the course are not met)
-evaluates his/her own skills unrealistically and is unable to receive feedback
