Objectives

The aim of the course is to learn the laboratory processes of clinical chemistry, haematology, and blood center, and to learn to analyze samples involved in the daily work of laboratories.

After completion of the course the student:
• can collect and handle various samples in clinical chemistry, hematology, and blood transfusion serology, and evaluate the suitability of samples for analysis
• knows the principles of the methods and equipment used, as well as the significance of quality management
• can conduct and respond to various laboratory tests under guidance and understand the clinical significance of the results
• can work actively and responsibly as a member of a team in various workstations, adhering to the rules of the work community
• is able to apply previously acquired knowledge and assess their own professional development.

Content

• Collection of blood samples from patients of different ages
• Work in the clinical chemistry laboratory
• Work in the clinical haematology laboratory
• Work in the blood center

Prerequisites

Before starting the clinical training, students are required to have sufficient theoretical knowledge in clinical chemistry, haematology, and blood center work.

Assessment criteria, pass/fail

Pass: The student can apply their theoretical knowledge when participating in various tasks during the clinical training. The student is capable of conducting laboratory tests using both analyzers and, if necessary, also manually under supervision. The student can assess the reliability of results and consider the need for possible follow-up actions. The student actively participates in the clinical training as a responsible member of the work community. The student can evaluate their professional development during the clinical training period.

Fail: The student does not meet the criteria for a passing grade.
