Objectives

The aim of the course is to strengthen skills in searching for, reading, evaluating, and utilizing scientific information in studies and practical work tasks of a biomedical laboratory scientist.

After completion of the course, the student:
• identifies, searchs for, reads, evaluates, and utilizes national and international sources of health-related information
• understand the significance of evidence-based practice in biomedical laboratory science
• is aware of recommendations in health care based on scientific evidence.
• utilizes scientific knowledge in biomedical laboratory science studies and practical work
• understands the basics of artificial intelligence and is able to assess its possibilities, limitations, and responsible use.

• Structured information retrieval and the most important national and international databases in the healthcare sector
• Information literacy and source critique
• Evidence-based practice in the field of biomedical laboratory science
• Key recommendations in the healthcare sector
• Utilization of scientific knowledge in practical laboratory work
• Fundamentals of artificial intelligence and its responsible usage

Assessment criteria, pass/fail

Pass: The student is aware of the key databases in the healthcare sector and has basic knowledge of structured information retrieval. The student can use various sources of information, evaluate the reliability of information, and apply it in his/her own field through practical examples. The student understands the importance of evidence-based practice and recognizes healthcare recommendations based on scientific knowledge. The student also has knowledge of the fundamentals of artificial intelligence and understands its responsible use.

Fail: The student does not meet the criteria for a passing grade.
