Objectives

The student
- is able to apply the skills obtained from the study modules of Molecular Biology and Genetics as well as Cell Culture Methods and Clean Room Work when working in the laboratory of molecular genetics
- acquires basic skills for working in a molecular biology laboratory by working in a clean room, practicing pipetting of small volumes, working at different workstations in the molecular biology laboratory and by evaluating the reliability of the results
- becomes familiar with automation in molecular biology
- is able to evaluate the reliability and quality of molecular biological tests

Content

For example, detection of Chlamydia, Cytomegalovirus and Herpes viruses
Automation in molecular biology
Evaluation of test results

Prerequisites

The study modules of Molecular Biology and Genetics 7B00EG32 and Cell Culture Methods and Clean Room Work 7B00EG33 must be completed before starting the practical training.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

-

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

-

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

-

Assessment criteria, pass/fail

The student
- is able to conduct essential molecular biology tests under supervision
- is able to pipette small volumes reliably, and work aseptically in a clean room
- is able to evaluate the molecular biology-based test results under supervision
- is cooperative and shows initiative and interest in professional development
- works according to agreed practices and takes responsibility for his/her actions
- can realistically evaluate his/her activities and takes advantage of the feedback received

Further information

The supervised practical training in the molecular biology laboratory is an alternative to training in microbiology or pathology laboratories.
