Objectives
The objective of the course is to develop basic competences in assessing the need for care and urgency, holistic care for the long-term ill client and self-care guidance in basic health care.
After completing the course, the student
• can assess and document the client's need for care and urgency
• can apply client-centered methods for health promotion and self-care support and apply epidemiological information in reception situations.
• understands the significance of planned care for clients with multiple illnesses and can apply the health benefit model in client care
• recognizes potential health risks and hazards arising from the environment
• knows the key concepts and vocabulary of the course in Finnish
• can participate in patient guidance situations related to the course in Finnish according to their language proficiency level
Content
• assessment and documentation of the need for care and urgency in different client encounters, also in Finnish
• health promotion and epidemiology and supporting self-care
• the health benefit model and systematic care for clients with multiple illnesses
• health risks related to the environment
• key terminology and vocabulary of the course in Finnish
Prerequisites
30 ects of first year studies completed, including Pharmacotherapy and Medical Calculations.

The student

• knows the key principles of health promotion and supporting self-care and recognizes the possibilities of utilizing epidemiology in client guidance
• can implement nursing care for clients with multiple illnesses
• is aware of health risks related to the environment

The student
• can assess and document the client's need for care and urgency in a client-centered manner
• can utilize epidemiology, provide health-promoting guidance and support client's self-care using client-centered methods
• can plan and implement nursing care for clients with multiple illnesses
• understands health risks related to the environment and can apply this knowledge in client guidance
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
The student
• can assess and document the client's care needs and urgency in a client-centered and individualized manner
• can implement client-centered health promotion guidance and support for client self-care using a variety of methods, information sources, and epidemiology
• can plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for clients with multiple health conditions
• has a broad understanding of environmental health risks and can apply this knowledge in a client-centered manner in guidance and care
