Objectives

The objective of the course is to enhance clinical skills in various patient care situations.  

After completing the course, the student   
• can assess patients following the ABCDE protocol 
• can perform essential clinical care procedures 
• is able to respond to emergencies involving patients of different ages 
• understands the fundamentals of safe medication and fluid management 
• works in a patient-safe manner 
• can operate in nursing situations in the Finnish language according to their own language proficiency

Content

• vital functions of patients in different ages
• various clinical care procedures 
• starting CPR
• teamwork
• medication and fluid therapy of patients in dfferent ages
• patient safety
• participation in various care and teamwork situations according to one's own proficiency in the Finnish language

Prerequisites

The student has participated in mid-phase nursing studies courses.

Assessment criteria, pass/fail

Pass 
The student
• participates actively in care situations
• knows how to act in emergency situations
• can perform essential clinical care procedures 
• works as a member of a team
• operates in various care and teamwork situations according to their Finnish language proficiency level

Fail
The student
• does not participate actively in care situations
• does not know how to act in emergency situations endangering patient’s life
• does not know how to perform essential clinical care procedures
• acts inappropriately in the situation
• does not work as a member of a team
• is unable to operate in various care and teamwork situations
• does not use the Finnish language according to their own language proficiency level
