Objectives

The aim of the course is to provide basic information about entrepreneurship in the forestry sector and the key areas of business operations.

After completing the course, the student:
• is familiar with the operating models of forest service and logging entrepreneurship and is acquainted with the essential legislation associated with them
• can define the resources required for the operation of a forestry business and the cost factors related to them
• is proficient in business planning and financial management, enabling them to price the key services or products of the business and calculate its profitability
• can incorporate the principles of sustainable development and the circular economy into the company's operations.

Content

Forestry entrepreneurship in Finland, business legislation (including employer obligations, collective agreements, regulated industries, labor law, working hours, occupational safety), company strategy, values, planning and monitoring of operations and finances, financing and support methods, cost accounting, pricing, business plan and cash flow statement, marketing, sustainable development.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The students know the operating models of forest service and logging companies and the related legislation. They know how to define the resources and cost factors necessary for the operation of a forest company. They know how to price the company's key services or products and calculate the company's profitability. The students know what sustainable development and the circular economy mean in business operations.

The students know the operating models of forest service and logging companies and are familiar with the key legislation related to them. They know how to define the resources needed for the operation of a forest company and their cost factors. They know how to do business planning and corporate finance so that they know how to price the company's key services or products and calculate the company's profitability. The students know how to take into account the principles of sustainable development and the circular economy in the company's operations.

They know how to define the resources needed for the operation of a forest company and their cost factors.
