Forest MensurationLaajuus (5 cr)
Code: 6M00GE25
Credits
5 op
Objectives
During the course, the students will learn the basic skills of measuring trees and evaluating forest stands.
After completing the course, the student:
• knows how to measure trees and calculate the volume of single trees
• knows how to measure stand characters and how to estimate stand volumes
• knows statistical mean values and can define forest stand mean values
• knows how to estimate the future growth of a forest stand
• knows how to calculate the past growth of a forest stand
• knows how to estimate the area of a forest stand on the map and in the field
Content
Forest mensuration equipment and their use. Measuring of standing trees and stand evaluation.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)
The student knows how to measure trees and evaluate stand data but needs guidance in doing the work
Assessment criteria, good (3-4)
The student knows how to independently measure trees, evaluate stand data and estimate areas
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
The student knows how to independently measure trees and evaluate stand data as well as estimate areas and apply different tree evaluation methods in different situations.
