Objectives

The student:
-knows how to measure trees and calculate the volume of single trees
-knows how to measure stand characters and how to estimate stand volumes
-knows how to estimate the area of a forest stand on the map and in the field
-knows statistical mean values and can define forest stand mean values
-knows how to estimate the future growth of a forest stand
-knows how to calculate the past growth of a forest stand
-is able to estimate the amount of removal of a thinning

Content

Measuring of standing trees and stand evaluation. Mathematics of forest measurements.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The student knows how to measure trees and evaluate stand data but needs guidance in doing the work

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

The student knows how to independently measure trees, evaluate stand data and estimate areas

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
