Code: 5T00EF01

Credits

5 op

Objectives

The student is able to
- define the basic concepts and quantities used in electrical engineering as well as the basic concepts and components of electric circuits.
- use basic calculus to calculate the quantities of direct and alternating circuits
- make simple models to undertake calculations of real electric circuits

Content

The concepts, components, calculation and analysis of direct and alternating circuits. Modelling of a simple electric circuit and electric devices.

Prerequisites

Basic skills for building systems engineering module or similar skills

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The student recognizes the basic components of electrical engineering and their basic characteristics, and is able to solve circuit calculations using simple parallel and serial connections. The student recognizes the basic quantities of an AC signal from the signal plotters and is able to describe time-domain signals with vectors.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

In addition to the above, the student is able to apply different methods in solving circuit calculations in circuits with mixed circuits. The student is able to apply voltage and power source models to describe real electrical sources. The student is able to apply cursor calculation in simple AC circuits and understands the basic concepts of AC power. The student is able to name the properties of basic components of electrical engineering and their applications in DC and AC circuits.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

In addition to the above, the student applies a variety of analysis methods when solving circuit calculations. The student is able to apply voltage and power source models to describe real electrical sources. The student is able to solve the AC components, triangles and coefficients. The student is able to describe in a versatile way the characteristics and applications of the basic components of electrical engineering in electrical systems and understands the main aspects of the behavior of components as load on an alternating current circuit.
