Objectives
The purpose of the course is to strengthen the student's research skills, which are needed both in studies and in working life research, development and innovation projects. The course also introduces to the thesis process in the degree programme of Laboratory Engineering.
After completing the course, the student
• understand the importance of research in the acquisition of information and the development of practices in working life
• knows the most common research methods, and knows how to apply them appropriately
• knows the research process
• searches for information in a versatile way, and evaluates different sources of information critically
• takes into account both research ethics and the ethical principles of his own field
• knows the thesis process in TAMK and thesis requirements of Degree Programme in Laboratory Engineering
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)
The student knows the stages of the research process and knows different research methods. The student knows how to search for information from different sources. The student can reflect on the quality, reliability and ethics of research. The student knows the main features of the thesis instructions.

The student masters the research process with its stages and can describe and compare different research methods. The student knows how to search for information from different sources and evaluate the sources critically. The student knows how to analyze the quality, reliability and ethics of research in a versatile way. The student knows the thesis instructions well.

The student masters the research process with its stages and can describe and compare different research methods and evaluate their suitability. The student knows how to search for information in a variety of ways and evaluate sources critically. The student can independently, comprehensively and critically analyze the quality, reliability and ethics of research. The student knows the thesis instructions in detail.
