Objectives

The student is familiar with the theoretical basis of the finite element method and can analyze structures and machine parts under static loading conditions using a typical FEM-program. The student knows the basic concepts of the element method, knows the most important element types, can take advantage of the results from FEM calculation and knows the typical structure of FEM software The student is familiar with the theory of the direct finite element method of trusses and frames and gains experience in applying the finite element method to two- and three-dimensional solid structures.

Content

Basic concepts of the finite element method, element types and results of the FEM-analysis. The structure of a typical FEM-program and its functions. The direct finite element method of trusses and frames. Using a FEM-program in practice.

Prerequisites

Prerequisites: The student has basic knowledge of dynamics, statics and strength of materials theory.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)
