Objectives

After completing course student:
• knows the history of the lean philosophy and the key lean principles
• knows the key tools and their suitability for various development needs
• can identify development targets in their own operations from a lean perspective and choose the appropriate tool for the development target from the lean tools they know
• knows how to observe daily processes from a lean perspective and identify development opportunities for the development of processes
• is ready to start life-long learning in lean thinking in development
• is able to participate Lean Six Sigma projects as a trained team member (LSS Yellow Belt

Content

Course is partially a self-study course. The goal of the study course is to awaken the students lean thinking in their daily activities, both at work and in free time.
The content of the course includes the history of lean, key lean principles and tools.
The course contains interactive videos, teaching material, recordings, self-study assignments, midterm exams and a final exam.
Student is also participating in a Lean Six Sigma or Lean project as a team member. Project topic must be aquired by team preferably from industry.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The student recognizes basic lean principles and methods.
Student is able to use basic lean tools in simple problem solving.
The student is able to participate DMAIC project as Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt member.
The student can recognize process improvement needs from lean perspective and develop solution proposals for improving process.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

Student understands basic lean principles and methods.
Student is able to choose and use most common lean tools appropriate to problems to be solved.
The student shows that she/he is able to independently search for more information about lean as needed.
The student is able to participate DMAIC project as Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt member.
The student can identify process development needs from a lean perspective, develop solution proposals for improvements and objectively choose the best solutions.

Student understands basic lean principles and methods.
Student is able to choose and use most common lean tools appropriate to problems to be solved.
The student shows that she/he is able to independently search for more information about lean as needed and is able to use information in real life problems.
The student is able to participate DMAIC project as Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt member.
The student can identify process development needs from a lean perspective, develop solution proposals for improvements and objectively choose the best solutions. The student is able to validate effectiveness of improvement solutions.
