Objectives

The student is able to
• design, execute, test and validate a machine automation system consisting of several individual processes
• combine several machine automation devices and/or processes into a working entity
• establish communication between lower and higher level automation system
• integrate safety system
• document the work at the professional level

Content

• Design and documentation of machine automation system
• Integration of devices and processes into a functional larger system
• Design, implementation and testing of safety system as a part of entity
• Commissioning and testing of a machine automation system

Prerequisites

Automation technology and PLC programming:
• Experience on IEC 61131 - based PLC programming
• Experience on testing and commissioning of PLC control systems
Courses: PLC Control Systems, Automation Technology 1&2.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The student is able to design a simple machine automation process that consists of several devices or processes.
The student is able to execute the given tasks with assistance.
The student is able to commission several subsystems and test their functionality.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

The student is able to design a machine automation process that consists of several devices or processes.
The student is able to execute the given tasks.
The student is able to commission and test a more complex machine automation system.
The student is able to take into account the safety issues in the automation system.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student is able to design a machine automation process that consists of several devices or processes.
The student is able to execute the given tasks.
The student is able to commission and test a more complex machine automation system.
The student is able to take into account the safety issues in the automation system.
The student is able to document the project at the professional level.
