Objectives

Student knows and is able to dimension the most important machine elements and power transmissions such as bearings and gears. Student is able to dimension some most important joints such as screws and keys. Student understands the effects of proper mechanical design of machine elements to performance of the machine and can apply appropriate standards and procedures.

Content

The most typical machine elements in machine design; bearings and gears.
The most typical joints in machine design; Axle-hub joints, screws and welds.
The most typical transmissions in machine design; gear. Rolling bearings. Friction, wear and lubrication.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The student recognizes some of the most important machine parts and joints in machine building, such as bearings and wedge joint as well as being able to dimension them as simple targets. The student is aware of the impact of design on machine characteristics and the importance of standards in measuring dimensions. The student is only somewhat motivated, takes responsibility for his / her own performance, knows how to act in the group and gives and receives feedback.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

Students are familiar with some of the most important machine parts and joints in machine building, such as bearings and wedge joint, and are able to independently dimension them to conventional objects. The student understands and is able to describe the impact of design on the machine's properties and takes the correct standards into consideration in the selection. Students are clearly motivated, take responsibility for their own and team performance and are able to constructively give and receive feedback.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student knows and understands widely some of the most important machine parts and joints in machine building, such as bearings and wedge joint and can suitably dimension them for demanding applications. The student can reasonably describe the impact of different solution options and design on the machine's properties and apply the correct standards in the selection measure. Students are highly motivated, committed to taking responsibility for their own and group performance, and are able to systematically use feedback as a tool for professional growth.

Student is able to dimension some most important joints such as screws and keys. Student understands the effects of proper mechanical design of machine elements to performance of the machine and can apply appropriate standards and procedures.

Content (course unit)

The most typical machine elements in machine design; bearings and gears.
The most typical joints in machine design; Axle-hub joints, screws and welds.
The most typical transmissions in machine design; gear. Rolling bearings. Friction, wear and lubrication.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2) (course unit)

The student recognizes some of the most important machine parts and joints in machine building, such as bearings and wedge joint as well as being able to dimension them as simple targets. The student is aware of the impact of design on machine characteristics and the importance of standards in measuring dimensions. The student is only somewhat motivated, takes responsibility for his / her own performance, knows how to act in the group and gives and receives feedback.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4) (course unit)

Students are familiar with some of the most important machine parts and joints in machine building, such as bearings and wedge joint, and are able to independently dimension them to conventional objects. The student understands and is able to describe the impact of design on the machine's properties and takes the correct standards into consideration in the selection. Students are clearly motivated, take responsibility for their own and team performance and are able to constructively give and receive feedback.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5) (course unit)

The student knows and understands widely some of the most important machine parts and joints in machine building, such as bearings and wedge joint and can suitably dimension them for demanding applications. The student can reasonably describe the impact of different solution options and design on the machine's properties and apply the correct standards in the selection measure. Students are highly motivated, committed to taking responsibility for their own and group performance, and are able to systematically use feedback as a tool for professional growth.
