Objectives

After completing the course, the student
• knows the steering requirements and knows how to dimension a simple steering device
• know the effect of wheel angles on the car's drivability
• know the working methods of different types of wheel supports and know how to dimension them
• identify different suspension and damper solutions
• knows how to dimension the suspension system and analyze its operation
• know the different rim types and tire structures
• know the structures of brake systems.

Content

The course deals with steering, the effect of wheel angles on driving characteristics, determination of roll and yaw centers, dimensioning of suspension and damping, the effect of suspension and damping on driving comfort and safety, as well as structures and dimensioning of brake systems.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

Can identify and define chassis structural solutions used in vehicles. Familiar with various platform components. Works in a group. Recognizes his communication skills. Identifies important operating methods in one's field.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

Can structure the options of different platform components in relation to each other. Can choose the most suitable for the vehicle from different chassis components and justify their choice. Can cooperate responsibly and is ready to develop his interaction skills.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Understands the chassis structures used in a wide range of vehicles. Knows how to select and size suspension parts for a vehicle and create new support structures. Can cooperate responsibly, flexibly and constructively. Develops both own and group interaction.
