Vehicle Materials and ManufacturingLaajuus (5 cr)
Code: 5C00ER84
Credits
5 op
Objectives
Students:
- know the properties and manufacturing of materials used in vehicles
- can as industrial vehicle designers choose the right materials to the application
- know the environmental regulations regarding vehicle materials and chemicals
- know the material surface treatment techniques and materials
- principles of corrosion.
Students know about material recycling.
Content
The study course includes properties, use, recycling and end placement of modern and environmentally friendly materials.
Material elastic and plastic transformation, phase transformation, material testing, standards.
The students learn about materials used in the manufacture of vehicles, properties, and working the materials: steel and high strength steel, aluminum, plastics, composites, glasses, rubber and recycled materials.
Painting and surface treatment
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)
Can recognize and define the most common vehicle materials and manufacturing technologies. Knows different material groups, but can not justify own choices. Works in a group. Recognizes own co-operation skills. Recognizes engineering working methods.
Assessment criteria, good (3-4)
Can analyze different materials and their properties as well as manufacturing technologie choices to each other. Can make choices between materials and manufacturing techniques and justify own choices. Can work responsible in a group and is ready to improve co-operational skills.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
Understands widely the materials' properties and manufacturing techniques used in vehicle manufacturing. Can choose best possibilities of materials and manufacturing techniques to certain vehicle components and can justify own choices. Can co-operate responsible, flexible and constructively. Develop both own and group co-operation.
Assessment criteria, pass/fail
Student has not been able to do exercises, learning diary or examination acceptably.
