Objectives

Students are capable of conducting orchestras and are able to employ adequate conducting technique and musical skills to master relatively demanding scores. Students choose to focus on symphonic or wind orchestra or musical repertoire. They master the principles of independent and purposeful work with a an orchestra and appropriate rehearsing methods for the repertoire. They are familiar with orchestral repertoire of different styles and understand the psychological regularities of working with an orchestra.

Content

• Beating technique: beat patterns, changing metres, mastery of left hand gestures and expression, and a repertoire of 5-8 compositions representing diversive styles of music eras and includes compositions which are demanding by form and structure.
• Rehearsing orchestras and conducting a perfomance.
Techniques for rehearsing an orchestra, analysis of compositions and score playing. A set of 5-8 works from the repertoire of symphony orchestras, wind orchestras, or musical programs that reflect a diverse range of styles and include demanding pieces in terms of form and musical language. Additionally, exploration of symphonic, string, and wind orchestra repertoire, along with musical programs related to one’s specific area of focus

Assessment criteria, pass/fail

The student has participated in the instruction and is completing the required progress demonstration.
