Objectives

The course introduces and analyses various forms, genres, trends, and narrative techniques of non-fictional media. Attention is also given to the ethical guidelines and publishing channels of non-fictional media.

After completing the course, the student
- knows the historical context and evolution of nonfiction forms from documentary to visual journalism, podcasts, and vodcasts
- analyses characteristics, styles, and genres of different content types
- recognises their publication platforms and business models
- analyses ethical requirements and legal considerations of nonfiction contents

Content

Non-fiction forms in AV media and their evolution from documentaries to visual journalism, podcasts, and vodcasts.
Characteristics, styles, and genres of non-fiction content types.
Publication platforms and business models.
Ethical and legal principles in non-fiction media.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The student can recognise and analyse some non-fictional forms of media, but the analysis is superficial. The student's knowledge of publishing platforms and business models remains somewhat limited.

The student knows the historical context and development of non-fictional forms, from documents to visual journalism, podcasts, and vodcasts. They can analyse distinctive characteristics, styles, and genres of various content types. They recognise various publishing platforms and business models and analyse content's ethical and legal requirements.

The student can analyse the historical contexts and development of non-fictional forms, from documents to visual journalism, podcasts, and vodcasts. They can astutely analyse the distinctive characteristics, styles, and genres of different content types.
