Objectives

The objective of the course is to familiarise the student with the expressive principles of moving images and visual storytelling, and their application.

After completing the course, the student
- recognises the cinematic techniques and principles of visual and lighting narration
- can create expressive visual and lighting narration, supporting the dramaturgy of the story
- can choose a suitable filming location for realising visual plans

Content

Theory of moving image and lighting narration.
The significance, possibilities, and limitations of filming locations in constructing dramaturgy.
Scene's image and lighting dramaturgy.
Demonstration of dramaturgical solutions.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The student recognises the key principles of image and lighting narration. They can create a simple filming and lighting plan based on a given script. The student observes the opportunities and challenges of the filming location and adapts the plans to the chosen location under guidance.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

The student recognises and understands the techniques of image and lighting narration. They can create filming and lighting plans based on the genre of the script. The student uses style samples as part of the planning and location selection. They take into account the limitations and possibilities of the chosen filming location and adjust their plans accordingly.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student masters a variety of techniques in image and lighting narration. They create expressive and stylistically appropriate planning documents for a given script. The student extensively applies examples gathered from style references and aims for a cohesive expression within the genre. They can choose a narratively effective filming location and consider its constraints for work. The student extensively utilises the opportunities provided by the chosen filming environment in their dramaturgical planning.
