Objectives
The objective of the course is to provide the skills for carrying out the basics of intravenous fluid therapy and clinical laboratory tests.
After completing the course, the student
• has a basic understanding of intravenous fluid therapy and blood transfusion
• can plan, implement and evaluate a patient's intravenous fluid therapy and blood transfusion
• can practice aseptic techniques and prioritize safety in intravenous fluid therapy and medication administration
• considers patient education and continuity of care
• is familiar with the most common clinical laboratory tests
• knows the principles and stages of the clinical laboratory testing process
• understands the preanalytical quality factors related to laboratory tests and their significance in their own practice
• knows the basics of venous blood and skin puncture sampling
• can practice venous blood and skin puncture sampling effectively under supervision, ensuring patient and occupational safety
• knows the key concepts and vocabulary of the course in Finnish
• can participate in patient guidance situations related to the course in Finnish according to their language proficiency level

• patient education and ensuring continuity of care in intravenous fluid therapy and blood transfusion
• most relevant clinical laboratory tests
• laboratory testing process
• test codes and names and the use of laboratory manuals
• preanalytical quality factors
• patient guidance for laboratory tests in Finnish, in accordance with their own language proficiency level
• venous blood and skin puncture sampling
• key vocabulary and equipment needed for blood sampling, cannulation and intravenous fluid therapy in Finnish language

• can guide patients and justify the implementation of intravenous fluid therapy and blood transfusion

Clinical Laboratory Tests
Pass:
The student
• is familiar with the most common clinical laboratory tests and preanalytical quality factors
• can search for information in laboratory manuals
• can guide patients in and to laboratory tests
• practices patient and occupational safety in their actions
• practices venous and skin puncture sampling under supervision
Fail:
The student
• does not know key laboratory tests or pre-analytical quality factors
• is unable to find information in laboratory manuals
-• is unable to guide patients for laboratory test
• compromises patient and occupational safety in their actions
• does not actively participate in venipuncture and skin puncture practice sessions
