Prerequisites

First year and middle phase studies completed, at least 135 credits, including the basic level studies in the field of advanced professional studies and Anatomy and Physiology.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The student
- has basic theoretical, evidence-based and ethical knowledge needed in the nursing care of medical- urgical patients and in nursing process
- recognises most common long-term chronic diseases and acute conditions in medical-surgical patients
- recognises most common disturbances in health condition and how they affect patient's health and care
- knows how to implement rehabilitative nursing care
- is aware that patients and their families will need support in crisis
- recognises the importance of patient’s and families’ guidance during the care process
- does not have the ability to justify the decisions made, needs guidance and assistance, but will take responsibility of one’s learning

The exam is rejected if, based on the exam answer, patient safety is substantially compromised, e.g. a patient would die due to incorrect medication or instructions.

Upgrading exam week 17/2023 in Exam. If you want to participate in the upgraiding exam, contact the responsible teacher (Tuuli laine) of the course by e-mail by 16.4 . NOTE! Upgraiding exam includes all parts of the study course, i.e. only one part of the study course cannot be upgraded.

Assessment methods and criteria

Part 1 & 2: In exams, the lowest accepted grade is 50% of the maximum points.
Part 3: Medical calculations: Assessment pass/faill --> you have to get 100% correct from the medical calculations to pass
Part 4: Small group work: In small group work, 100% attendance is required
Part 5: Skills classes at Taitokeskus: 100% attendance is required

Also all assignments presented in the course must be returned by the end of the course. Assignments returned after this will not be evaluated.

- part 2 nursing of Children and Young People and Nursing of the Disabled
- part 3 medical calculations
- part 4 small group work & seminar (Hypertension, Asthma, DM type 1 & 2, Heart failure, Post stroke rehabilitation, Sepsis, Ileus, IBD, Kidney failure)--> 20min presentation per group
- part 5 clinical practise
