Objectives

The student learns about building design and gets to know different types of buildings as part of the built environment.
The student understands building design as part of a house construction project and learns the basics of architectural design.

Content

The role and responsibilities of the architect and chief designer in the project.
Designers' qualifications and selection criteria.
Documents and their functions.
Construction permit process, plan interpretation and building right and scope calculations.
Laws, regulations and instructions concerning building design.
Considering accessibility in planning.
Basics of apartment and yard planning (rooms, passageways, etc.).
Building types (small houses, apartment buildings, public buildings).
Changes of purpose, modernizations and additional construction.
The relationship of the building to the environment, the architectural quality of the facade and the cityscape.

Prerequisites

5R00GQ73 Basics of Construction or equivalent knowledge

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The student can name the key laws and regulations concerning building design.
He knows how to describe the key tasks of the architect and chief designer in a construction project.
The student can read plan markings and define scope information related to building rights.
He can explain the construction permit process. He knows the basics of apartment and yard design and the accessibility of buildings and knows how to apply them in simple design objects.
He can describe the impact of buildings on the cityscape.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

In addition to the previous one, the student can apply laws, regulations and instructions in construction planning and the construction permit process.
He knows how to prepare building rights and scope calculations.
The student knows how to describe things to be taken into account in changes to the purpose of use of buildings, modernization and supplementary construction.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

In addition to the previous one, the student has a comprehensive understanding of the subjects of the course and their use
for solving problems and the ability to design functioning, implementable entities within the given deadline.
