COMPETENCIES DEVELOPED IN THE TRAINING
The Master’s Degree Programme in International Forestry is a professional higher education degree. The objective of the Master’s programme is to educate experts and managers for sustainable international forestry. The graduates will become specialists in international operations and have knowledge and skills to motivate and lead people and manage projects in multicultural organizations and working environments. They will be able to analyze, interpret, and make decisions based on diverse data in international forestry context. The degree is focused on understanding global trends and using forest related big data in local forestry decisions. The degree complies with the criteria set by the Finnish national degree system as well as with the European framework for degrees and competences. The degree is working life oriented
and comparable with equivalent degrees in other EU countries (EQF, level 7).
PROFESSIONAL STATUS
The graduates qualify for leading positions in the field of forestry, especially international forestry. The degree provides graduates with expertise and management skills for a career in different fields of forestry. The degree gives a qualification for a public appointment where a Master’s Degree is required

STRUCTURE OF THE STUDIES
Professional Studies: Management and Leadership 15 credits
*Sustainability and Social Responsibility (5 cr)
*The student chooses two of the following three: Leading People (5 cr), Risk Management in International Operations (5 cr) orFinancial Management (5 cr)
Future Forestry 10 credits
*Global Megatrends and International Forestry (5 cr)
*Big Forest Data (5 cr)
Free-Choice Studies 5 cr
Master’s Thesis 30 credits (includes 5 credits of Academic Research and Practices)
Objectives
After completing the studies the student is able
* lead and manage sustainable international forest operations.
* analytically apply knowledge of global megatrends in forestry related decision making
* anticipate future trends and analyze the possibilities to use big data in forestry in different countries and implement convenient tools and methods.
* plan, complete and evaluate research-based development projects
