Objective of course:
Students
are able to work in the polytechnic learning and working environment
are aware of the structure of the degree programme, their future profession and polytechnic studies as part of the European higher education system
become familiar with their student group and understand how their role promotes positive learning environment
are capable of utilising the support services of studies
are aware of the students´ possibilities of participating in and affecting the development of education
start planning their own studies and career under the supervision of their teacher tutor and comprehence the importance of the students´ active involvement in their own learning process
are able to use computer hardware and MS Office software in accordance with the working life needs
can develop their IT skills as the field develops

Course contents:
- Pirkanmaa University of Applied Sciences as working and learning environment
- curriculum of the degree programme, study plan and orientation to the future profession
- polytechnic studies and degrees in the European higher education system
- support services of studies
- students´ participation, influence and feedback systems
- personal study plan and career planning
- MS-Word or other equivalent word processing program
- document setting standards
- MS-Excel or other equivalent spreadsheet
- integrated use of Office programs by means of clipboard
- production of presentations with PowerPoint or equivalent presentation graphics program
- peripheral devices to computers, like printers, scanners, digital cameras, sound reproduction equipment
- basic use of MS-FrontPage or equivalent web editor
- the most common information security risks and their management

Teaching methods:
Lectures, practices, demonstrations, personal guidance and development discussions

Assessment methods:
Construction of personal study plan and preliminary career plan, guidance and development discussion, assessment of the practices and use of computer or competence test
