The extent of the degree programme is 210 credits (cr) and the education lasts for 3.5 years.
Studies will be concucted by using a variety of learning and teaching methods, day /evening studies /several types of methods (contact teaching mainly in the evenings and on Saturdays)

Competences developed
The aim of the Degree Programme in Business Administration is to educate Bachelors of Business Administration with solid professional skills and competences for expert and supervisory duties in business administration. Graduates know the key business areas and have an extensive and thorough professional command of their own field, capability of business thinking, general working life abilities and knowledge and skills needed in various business environments. The Degree Programme in Business Administration develops entrepreneurial, information technology, information acquisition, communication, interaction and cooperation skills.
The graduates of the option become experts in both domestic and international marketing, financial management and business operations. They are provided with skills to work in diverse customer and business environments. The graduates will be able to run domestic and international marketing, financial management and business operations as well as develop the marketing of enterprises/companies. Project management skills are developed during the education and the graduates have the ability to work in various project assignments.
Professional status
Graduates may work within diverse domestic or international marketing, financial management or business operations, e.g. as financial, marketing, sales, export, communication, purchase and product managers or assistants or in diverse project assignments. Graduates may work in very different kinds of jobs, e.g. in enterprises rganizati export or in enterprises and rganizations offering services to them. Various jobs of marketing communications or event marketing are also very typical jobs for the graduates. The graduates are provided with good skills to set up their own businesses, too.
Values and key contents
In business the operational instructions include the responsibility of business including all business areas. The Degree Programme in Business Administration consists of core studies, professional studies, which include practical training to enhance professional skills, bachelor’s thesis and elective studies. The emphasis areas of the option include professional studies in marketing management, international marketing, financial and personnel management , advertising graphics and visual marketing. In the beginning of the education students become familiar with the core areas of business and business environments.
Marketing, accountancy, communication, information technology and information acquisition skills are key areas to be studied in the beginning of the studies. The professional studies of the option include marketing planning and management, international marketing, financial and personnel management, advertising graphics and visual marketing studies. In addition, a development project made according to the needs of a company/organisation and the student´s own development needs is included into the studies. Practical training consists of orientating and option-specific practical training. Practical training can be conducted in Finland or abroad. The working life oriented bachelor’s thesis is done in the end of the studies. Team skills will be developed during the studies.
The graduates will receive an overall picture of business activities with all the sub-fields. They become familiar with domestic and international marketing and marketing mix, international business and its operations, foreign trade and related procedures and documents, marketing communications, preparation of marketing material, graphics for advertising, brand and image marketing, internet marketing, customer relationship management as well as marketing research and marketing management processes. They learn diverse market areas as well as their business environments and business cultures.
Students can increase their knowledge and skills through elective studies. Students can for example develop their language skills and increase their competences in issues related to their option-specific studies.
Teaching methods
Lectures, diverse projects and virtual instruction are used as teaching methods. Working-life oriented projects and bachelor’s theses as well as participation of company experts in teaching give wider approach to the content of the studies. Organisation of trade fairs, planning and execution of marketing campaigns, market surveys and diverse financial management and administration projects as well as participation in international programmes and projects deepen the students´ competences in the professional field. Part of the studies is carried out in English. International programmes, working with exchange students and lecturers arriving from several countries and student and/or trainee exchange also provide abilities for working in diverse business environments.
Learning outcomes and expertise developed by the degree programme/academic year
In the first year, students become familiar with the core areas of business and business environments and the key factors of profitable business operations. Students develop their professional competences. Business, marketing, accountancy, communication, information technology and information acquisition skills are key issues to be studied. The theme of the first year is business and its fields and business environments.
During the second year, students deepen their knowledge about marketing communications and other marketing mix tools and special areas of marketing, for example b-to-b marketing. Marketing communications, brands and image marketing, visual expression and graphics for advertising are key study areas of the second year. Planning and production of a brochure, advertisement or other publication for advertising purposes are part of the studies. A trade fair is implemented as a marketing project. Through management accounting, taxation and payroll management studies, financial management expertise is developed. In the second year, business skills, communication skills in foreign languages, information acquisition and technology skills are developed and research skills are studied. Students become familiar with international marketing and business cultures both in studies and through participation in international projects. Students deepen their competences in all the mentioned fields of studies. Student exchange and/ or practical training abroad give students the possibility to modify their study programme according to their own interests.
In the third year, the emphasis is on marketing research and marketing planning and management. An international intensive programme and other international projects will be organised as part of marketing project studies. In financial and personnel management the emphasis is on the following areas: cost accounting, budgeting, analysis, financial management, financial statement planning and taxation. Student exchange and/or practical training abroad give students the possibility to widen their study programme. A development project is done according to the development needs of a company and the student. Bachelor’s thesis is an integral part of the studies. Development of the skills and competences in the mentioned areas of study is the objective of the third year studies.
The fourth year includes practical training, bachelor’s thesis and elective studies.
