Opintojakson tavoite
Students learn to understand the impact of cultural background on personal behaviour. Students learn to understand the characteristics of other cultures and be able to analyse similarities and differences between cultures. One of the objectives is to prepare students for intercultural situations in their professional environment and to provide them with skills related to intercultural communication and cross-cultural management. Students will be trained to communicate and work with people from different cultural backgrounds and environments. Students will study different aspects of market areas and cultures, including values, norms, beliefs, attitudes, taboos, business customs and practices, consumer behaviour, economy, government, environmental conditions and organisations. They will also consider how cultural factors affect personal interaction and other forms of marketing communications, including non-verbal communication (body language, personal space, outside appearance etc.). Students will be especially acquainted with European and Asian business cultures and market areas, as well as the business cultures and markets of some other selected areas. Cross-cultural project management and strategies for managing multicultural teams will be studied.

Lectures, assignments, critical incidents and case studies, essays, workshops including presentations, a written essay on the selected market area and business culture and the presentation of it. Cross-cultural projects.
Arviointimenetelmät
Continuous assessment and examination. Active participation in contact teaching, completing assignments and case studies and participation in case study sessions, assessment of essays. Participation in workshops and seminars, assessed presentations and enterprise involvement. Assessment of the project.
