-understand the structure and function of nucleic acids and the genetic information flow in cells
-understand the concept of genes in prokaryotes and eukaryotes, and the basic mechanisms and the importance of gene regulation
-know and are able to perform the most commonly used techniques in molecular biology, including molecular cloning
