Objectives
The students understand the fundamental phenomena related to mechanical oscillation, wave motion, sound, atomic and nuclear physics. The students become familiar with the physical laws fundamental to the operational functioning of various machines and devices.
The students become acquainted with the experimental exploration of physical phenomena, learn to make controlled measurements, to report of the results and to evaluate the reliability of the measurements and methods.
Content
Mechanical oscillation and waves, sound. Electromagnetic waves, quantization, interaction of photons and matter. Atomic energy levels. Nuclear structure, radioactivity, nuclear energy.
Familiarisation with various measurement techniques and devices, making of measurement records, calculation of results, evaluation of reliability, reporting, occupational safety. Laboratory exercises from various fields of physics.
Prerequisites
Engineering physics 1 or equivalent.
