Objectives

The students recognise orchestral instruments and the most common popular music instruments by ear and know enough of their properties to be able to work as recording engineers. They know the basic concepts of instrumental acoustics and are able to apply them in sound recording situations. The students know the basic concepts of sound synthesis. They know the roles of the music recorder, producer, editor, mixer and mastering engineer and are able to work as sound engineers, editors and mixers. The students recognise the timbre of various music styles in recordings and are able to analyse the production techniques and esthetical views which led to them. The students know how to use a sound work station to record, edit and mix music. The students know how to mike the most common instruments. They know the signal path in recording music in a studio and are able to assemble equipment for a live recording. The students know how to communicate with musicians.
