Documentary Film ProjectLaajuus (5 cr)

Objectives

The students are able to come up with a topic and a viewpoint for a documentary film. They know how to develop alternate ways of producing a film and are able to justify their choices from the point of view of both the film's message and the expression. The students recognise the ethic responsibility over the subjects of the documentary. The students are able to write a script and a pre-production plan for the documentary while taking into account the production limits, including post-production. The students know the distribution channels and customers for documentaries in Finland.

Content

During the course the students carry out a documentary film project. Documentary as a film genre. The relationship between a documentary and reality. The importance of the form and meaning of expression in a documentary. Ethics of documentaries. The customers and distribution channels for documentaries in Finland. In the learning diary the students evaluate their own role in the process.
