Objectives

The students recognise contemporary art as a cultural way of expression, understand the most important speech and presentation conventions of fine art and can apply them to analyse visual culture. The students understand the significance of art and can place their own work in the context of contemporary art.

Content

The course consists of four parts: artistic work, analysis of presentation practices, basics of art production and visual analysis. The students implement an independent art work and a small-scale exhibition. The analysis of presentation practices ponders the ways of contemporary art and its possibilities in relation to presentation contexts, institutions and viewers. Visual analysis begins with cultural research and applying discourse analysis in interpreting the meanings of an image.
