Overview

The course familiarizes students with the tourism as a social phenomenon. It introduces the basic and relevant concepts used in academic tourism research and tourism field of study. Classic tourism research theories are also considered.

Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the students will be able to:
Understand tourism as a multifaceted phenomenon in modern societies and learn to use relevant concepts of tourism field and tourism related discussions.
Know different types of tourism.
Know the most significant impacts of tourism and understand their importance in tourism planning and developing.
Learn the principles of the classic tourism research theories in tourism sociology.
Know what kind of statistical information of tourism there is available and how to read it.
Learn to read academic tourism writings and articles.
