Objective of course
The course will provide students with the opporunity to focus on the practcal application of theory to the analysis of European tourism destinations/attractions/transport systems. Students engage in cross cultural debates and problem solving on the merits of international destinations and explore the implications of differing cultures and practice their comminucation skills in international teams. During the course students will gain the experience of learning in a European partner institution, exchange knowledge and become more effective participants in shared learning environment.

Course contents
" techniques to evaluate tourism planning/management decisions
" the socio economic impacts of tourism development at European destination environments
" the tourism attraction product at different European destinations, public and private sector
" the motivational factors for the development of tourism attractions
" the practical implicatons/relationships between tourism and transport
" destination management/marketing systems, market segmentation

Teaching methods
12 day intensive programme taught at Solford Univeristy UK
Lectures, workshops, visits to regional destinations, group presentation (in the end of the programme), individual written report of 4000 words (after the programme)

Assessment methods
Managing own learning and performance, working with international team members

Prerequisites
Target group the 2 -3. year Tourism students, Basics of tourism (Hotel- and restaurant management students)
Team work assignment before the programme: Introducing Finnish tourism, presentations at the beginning of the intensive course
