Objectives (course unit)
• the student is able to recognize and describe the problem, and is able to define objectives for a project, including the value added, in collaboration with other team members
• the student is able to plan a project as a team member, and capable of utilizing agile project working methods as a member of a interdisciplinary project team
• the student is able to utilize user and customer centered methods to design and create the desired outcome
• the student is able to apply, utilize and acquire new knowledge and methods from their study field to achieve the desired project outcomes
• the student is capable of taking responsibility of the improvement and development of their operational environment, and is able to recognize and articulate the relevance of their competence and work in context
• the student is able to communicate about the project status and outcomes to the customer and stakeholders in a clear and precise manner
Content (course unit)
At Learning Lab students and staff from various fields collaboratively carry out development projects that benefit the Tampere higher education community on a wide scale.

Teaching methods
Learning Lab Summer 2021 is a 6-week intensive practical and team-learning experience. During the six weeks you will get to work in interdisciplinary team with a development project done for a real customer. Team learning requires active participation during regular working hours Monday-Friday 9am-4pm. (8-15 CET). English (and Finnish) will be used as a working language.
Students in the interdisciplinary project teams are the experts who bring their own knowledge, experience and energy together to innovate and create solutions, and to deliver valuable end product for the client. At the same time participants will develop and improve general working life skills.
Learning Lab projects are open to students from all fields of study and all level of experience and expertise. The projects are student-driven, meaning the student teams plan and carry out their projects utilizing user-oriented design and project working methods. The teams are supported by clients, mentors and Learning Lab project coaches.
Every team gets its own challenge or development task related to sustainability, well-being and communality, to work with. The projects are suitable for participants from different fields! During the summer, the team will produce fully finished products or services, or products for further development.

Practical training and working life cooperation
The summer can be part of your practical training, a project work course, or part of free choice studies. However, it is good to verify from your own study programme that the implementations can be included in your studies. Credit units will be earned according to the hours worked. The working hours will be transferred to credit units.

Assessment criteria - pass/fail (Not in use, Look at the Assessment criteria above)
To pass the course, you must actively participate all the activities, daily teamwork and reflections. You have demonstrated your understanding of the challenge provided by a client and team up with your fellow students to address the challenge. You will be expected to generate potential solutions, plan the testing of ideas, and develop ideas into functional solutions. You and your team must propose diverse solutions to the customer.
Implementation is failed if you do not participate the activities, you do not contribute to the activities set out in the team’s project plan nor help to resolve the provided challenge and team learning process, constructive communication is lacking: you do not suggest, develop or test the ideas actively on the field.
