The student

- Distinguishes the stylistic and cultural differences between spoken and written language

Aika ja paikka
At Mediapolis/online on Tuesdays at 15:00 - 17:00 according to the schedule in Moodle. The detailed schedule will be given on the first lecture and published in Moodle.
The course begins on September 2nd!

No exam - the grade consists of tasks done during the course.
Arviointimenetelmät ja arvioinnin perusteet
Assessment is based on a number of tasks completed by the students.
There will also be a presentation (done in pairs), which forms a part of the final grade.

Please bring your laptop and writing equipment.
Let the teacher know at the start of the course if you have a Proposal for Individual Study Arrangements e.g. dyslexia.
There is an attendance policy of 80% i.e. you can be absent max. four times. Let the teacher know if you cannot make it to the class and ask your classmates afterwards about the class. Homework is always published on Moodle. Absencies cannot be compensated with extra assignments.
Due to the nature of the course, remote participation is not possible.
NOTE: The course enrolments prioritise 3rd and 4th year students. 1st and 2nd year students are accepted if there's room in the course.

- are able to obtain information only from a few sources and read basic professional literature.
- master only some professional terms and phrases.
- distinguish only some of the differences between spoken and written language as well as various cultures and have difficulties in adapting them.
- know how to outline the essentials of a text and how to write structured text.
- submit all required work.
Arviointikriteerit - hyvä (3-4) (Ei käytössä, kts Opintojakson Arviointikriteerit ylempänä)
The students
- are able to use English fairly well both in professional and personal contexts.
- are able to obtain information from a fairly good selection of sources and read advanced professional literature.
- master a fairly good selection of professional terms and phrases.
- distinguish and are able to adapt most differences between spoken and written language as well as various cultures.
- know how to outline the essentials of a text and how to write analytical and structured text.
- submit all required work by dead-lines.
