Objectives (course unit)

Student is able to discuss and use the means of social approaches in fine art projects and knows how to produce public community-based art works. Student is able to collaborate in an international student team.

Content (course unit)

Student works as a part of community within fine art context. Student makes a presentation of community-based artwork on given subject.

Lessons beginning are on Wednesday, 29.8. at 10:00 in Mediapolis, classroom 20064. The teachers for the course are Tiiu Baldwin and Sari Tervaniemi.

Assessment methods and criteria

Student must attend the most of the lessons but if there is a really good reason we can negotiate the alternative tasks.
Evaluation is based on following:
- Student must show an active workflow
- Deliver tasks on required time
- Show required technical skills
- Show artistic approach in their projects
- show initiativity
- show activity in discussions

Further information

In the Autumn in the Applied Fine art Minor the technique you’ll be working with is based on your earlier skills, you can make for example video projects, photography projects, drawing projects, plans for games (also board games) or sound art projects that you apply to the courses. The courses focus on different scenes in contemporary art for example on Community-based Art, Site Specific Art and Games in Fine Art. When making plans for the projects we’ll discuss critical thinking and the relationships to the situations in the world, to the society as well as media critic. This Minor suits for the 2nd to fourth year students who master some technique and are willing to develop their projects to the next level.
TAMK Smart Art Virtual gallery is one project that can be on the focus in this minor but student can work also with another project of their own choice for example their artistic Thesis work or a longer moving image project.
Responsible teacher of the Applied Fine Art is Sari Tervaniemi.

Options for the contents of the minor more in detail and the teachers:
1 ) Students working with the Virtual gallery project for fine art graduates will focus on planning the documentation and new artworks within the field of emerging media; e.g. AR/VR, 360-camera etc.

2 ) Student can work with the project that supports the artistic Thesis-work.

3) Socially engaged Moving Image project or photography project or site-specific project or situation related project or podcast project or installation project or public work project that consists critical thinking and is somehow related to society.

4) Collaboration work with an institution

4) A plan or a script for a game or VR-project. The student should already have technical skills.

Good quality in all tasks, all tasks delivered, active participation.
At least 80 % attendance in contact lessons. Student can articulate their visions and opinions in principle. Student shows that they have knowledge in the area of the subject of the courses and that they have a good over all view of the context. Student is able to use basic determinations and vocabulary of the subject. Student knows principles and practices of artistic research. The artistic project made in the course shows critical thinking and the project has been made successfully.

Excellent quality in all tasks, all tasks delivered, active participation.
At least 80 % attendance in contact lessons. Student can articulate their visions and opinions with a clear structure. Student shows that they have an excellent knowledge in the area of the subject of the course and that they have a good over all view of the context. Student uses fluently determinations and vocabulary of the subject. Student knows principles and practices of artistic methods and practices. The artistic project made in the course shows profound thinking and the expression is finessed in detail. Student shows great activity and initiativity in team works and in real life work projects.
