Opintojakson tavoitteet
Opiskelija 
- on selvillä ihmisen ja hänen ympäristönsä hyvinvointiin sekä terveyteen vaikuttavista   tekijöistä  
- on selvillä laboratoriopalvelutoiminnan osuudesta terveydenhuoltojärjestelmässä 
- hahmottaa, miten terveydenhuoltojärjestelmä liittyy muuhun yhteiskuntapolitiikkaan  
- selvittää sosiaali- ja terveydenhuoltojärjestelmän rakennetta ja sen toimintaa ohjaavia   arvolähtökohtia ja potilaan asemaa ja oikeuksia sääteleviä lakeja

Objective of course  
The student: 
-is familiar with the factors affecting the wellbeing and health of humans and their  environment  
-knows that laboratory services are part of the health care system   
-knows how the health care system is related to other social policy 
-is familiar with the structure of the social and health care service system and values  governing its operation as well as legislation regulating the status and rights of patients 
 
Course contents 
-physical, psychological and social needs of clients/ patients and responding to them at  the municipal level  
-laboratory services as part of patient care  
-social welfare and health care service system and related funding 
-values of social and health care sector, biomedical laboratory technologists´ code of  ethics, Act on the Status and Rights of Patients and Personal Data Act 
-multiprofessional cooperation in the laboratory service process

Assessment methods 
Active participation in teaching, graded examination and approved supervised clinical training in clinical laboratories to enhance professional skills.
