Objectives

Textile chemistry
The students know the basics of the practical chemistry needed in the textile processes taking into account the process and product characteristics of textiles. The students are able to take the environmental and occupational safety viewpoints into account when choosing textile chemicals and processes. The students know how to work in groups and to report their findings.

Content

Water chemistry: Process and waste water, using water, softening water, surface tension and lowering it, drying.

Washing chemistry: Tensides, washing alkali, washing boosters and solvents of chemical wash.

Chemistry of preparing, bleaching, dyeing and finishing: batch and continual processes, pre-washes, bleaching, mercerization, colorants and fastness, finishing chemicals, auxiliary substances.

Biochemistry for textiles: Enzymes
Textiles, occupational health and environment: Substances harmful to people and the environment, textile allergies
