Objectives

The students are able to define and agree on cooling goals, based on recognised condition needs and using various criteria, in collaboration with the authorities. They know how to calculate the cooling load, recognise the basic concepts of refrigeration technology as well as standards and regulations from the authorities. The students are able to demonstrate the basic thermodynamic processes of refrigeration technology and recognise the most common plant schematics and main components of cooling systems. The students are able to calculate mass and energy balances for the cooling process and to draw the cooling process for the logp,h diagram of a refrigerant.

Content

Cooling load, e.g. load exposed to sunshine with their shadings etc. Window shielding, basic processes of cooling, refrigerants, most important standards and regulations, cold storehouses, cooling systems for air conditioning, heat pumps, pipe connections and controls of a cooling plant, compressors, expanders and condensers, expansion valves and other plant components. Lubrication oils for refrigerating machines, dimensioning software for the cold process and machinery.
