Objectives

The students know the fundaments of chemistry and have the basic knowledge of organic and inorganic chemistry. They are familiar with the combustion reaction.
The students can make conclusions on materials’ working characteristics based on test results. They understand the significance of the materials’ characteristics regarding the working properties in different environments.

Content

Structure of matter and basic concepts of chemistry; state and its changes, gas laws, compounds and liquids, chemical reactions (especially combustion), thermochemistry; acids and bases; electrochemistry; environmental chemistry (hazardous substances); basics of organic chemistry, plastics; especially material chemistry and corrosion/environmental durability. Inhibition.
