Objectives

The students have an overview on the basics of sustainable development and environmental protection in construction. They are able to describe the basics of life span economy in business and to create both Life Cycle Assessments and Life Cycle Costs for building services systems and equipment. The students understand how the life cycle costs for building services systems and equipment are formed, their different stages (goal and scope, inventory analysis, impact assessment and interpretation) and are able to carry out the simple calculations needed.

Content

Aims for Life Cycle Costs and Life Cycle Assessments. BAT and alternative solutions. Factors in Life Cycle Costs and evaluating them. Stages of Life Cycle Assessment: Goal and scope, inventory analysis, impact assessment and interpretation. Environmental statements. LCC and LCA calculation tools and using them. Sensitivity in investment calculations. Environmental impact assessment legislation.
