Course unit code: R-01013

General information

Credits
5 cr

Objectives

The students understand the fundamental phenomena and laws related to heat, humidity, electric current, sound and radioactivity and get a broad physical insight into the applications in civil engineering. The students learn the related quantities and units and are able to describe a real system in a simplified way using the laws of physics and form the equations and solve these equations. The students become familiar with various measurement techniques and devices and learn to make controlled measurements. The students learn to make measurement records, calculate the results, report and evaluate the reliability of the measurements and methods.

Content

Temperature, heat, heat transfer, thermal expansion, thermal stress, basics of electricity, humidity of air, capillarity, diffusion, mechanical oscillation and waves, sound, radioactivity and radon. Six laboratory works, seminar.
