Objectives
The students know the characteristics and work methods of the machine and transport equipment used in earth work so that they can evaluate how the machinery suits various usages and to compare alternative solutions. They can take into account safety and environmental viewpoints when planning work.
The students can define the quality demands for earth work and to select the suitable quality control methods for various soil structures. They can select the proper usages for recovered material and know the processing processes of rock materials as well as the reinforcement methods for soil structures.
Content
The earth work qualities of ground, volume concepts, mass coefficients and the central characteristics of earth work machines and transport equipment, work methods and grounds for selection. Work site planning for common earth works taking into account safety, economy, quality and environmental aspects.
The quality demands for soil structures, quality control methods, setting and verifying quality demands. Refining soil and rock materials and recycled materials and using them in earth works, glance at dredging and dismantling and reinforcing earth. Operational economy of earth work machines, how the cost of machinery and end product is formed.
