Objectives

The aim of the course is to give the student an overall picture of the production methods and possibilities of electrical energy with renewable energy sources.

Content

• Electric energy production in Finland: production technologies, energy production characteristics and roles in the electric energy system
• Wind power: technologies, characteristics, strengths and weaknesses, current situation, future prospects
• Hydropower: technologies, characteristics, strengths and weaknesses, current situation, future prospects (pumped power plants as capacity increasers)
• Solar electricity: technologies, characteristics, strengths and weaknesses, current situation, future prospects.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The student knows and understands how electrical energy can be produced with renewable energy sources.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

The student knows and understands the characteristics of power plants operating on different renewable energy sources.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

In addition, the student understands the importance of renewable energy sources in electrical energy systems.
