Intermediate Russian (5cr)

Objectives

Having completed work on this module, students will have a good basic knowledge of the target language. In particular, students will
- be able to interact effectively and appropriately with customers in the target language
- be capable of obtaining information from various sources,
and using it to solve work-related problems and to develop
their professional expertise
- be able to build on the skills acquired in this module, so as
to develop further their skills in the target language.

Aqcuired level of competence: A2-B1 (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)

Content

The intermediate level is designed to provide students with communicative practice in natural and realistic work-related situations. The situations will vary according to the special characteristics of the target language. The principal topics and functions include e.g.:
- students practise presenting information about their
educational background, their work experience and
professional objectives.
- students practise giving information about one?s company
and its products/services.
- students practise communicating with customers in speech
and writing in an effective and appropriate manner
(including e.g. telephone contacts, dealing with the
common types of business letter, and communicating by
e-mail.

Prerequisites

Prerequisites: This module is aimed at students who have studied the target language at least five years.

Literature: Study materials will be distributed during the course.

Teaching methods: The practice activities are based on interpersonal interaction, and promote the development of communicative competence face-to-face and in writing. Audio-visual on-line learning tools may also be used.

Language of tuition: mainly Russian

Year: Business and administration: 2nd year of studies. Other degree programmes: no restrictions
